I blew $60 on a jar of "artisan" finishing salt and my grandma's $1 box is better
Ngl I got suckered by one of those fancy food blogs about 8 months ago and bought a $60 jar of flaky finishing salt from some small batch place in Portland. The blogger swore it would change how I cooked, so I put it on eggs, roasted veggies, even popcorn for a month and honestly it just tasted like salt but crunchier. My grandma always kept a plain box of kosher salt in her cabinet back in Ohio and used it on everything from Sunday chicken to sliced tomatoes, and that box costs about a dollar. I finally did a side by side on a baked potato last night and could not tell the difference, so now the fancy jar sits on my shelf looking pretty while I cook with her old brand. Has anyone else bought an expensive pantry item that a cheap staple beat out? I want to hear your swaps so I stop wasting money on hype.
