Just realized I don't need to soak beans overnight after all

My neighbor over the fence in Austin told me she just boils them for 2 minutes and lets them sit for an hour, and I thought she was crazy. Tried it last Tuesday with pintos and honestly they came out softer than my usual 12 hour soak, anyone else skip the overnight step?
