My sister puts ketchup in her meatloaf and I think it saves her $6 a week on sauce
Two weeks ago my sister made meatloaf at her place in Fresno and dumped half a bottle of ketchup right into the raw meat mix. I always glaze the top with a mix of ketchup and brown sugar, but she swears mixing it in first means you skip the canned tomato sauce you would buy for the top. She says she saves about $6 a week that way, but I think the inside gets too wet and the top never gets that sticky crust. So which is it, mix it in the meat or save it for the glaze? I want to hear from people who have tried both ways.
