Swapped out my go-to tomato sauce for a cheaper one and it saved me 30 minutes of simmering

I always used classy jarred marinara for pasta night but last week I ran out and only had a can of crushed tomatoes and some garlic powder. Figured I'd try it as a quick swap and it actually cooked down in like 15 minutes instead of the usual 45 mins I spend on the other stuff. The taste was different but not bad at all, way less sugar. Anybody else found a random pantry swap that actually cut down your cook time?

Always figured the fancy jarred sauce was the only way to go for a quick dinner, but you've got me rethinking that now. That shortcut sounds pretty solid especially if it cuts out the extra simmering time and sugar. Might have to give that a try next time I'm in a pinch.

Oh come on, it's really not that deep! Jarred sauce works fine for a quick dinner. I mean yeah, cutting sugar is cool and all but we're talking about a 20 minute meal here, not a culinary school project. I've used the cheap store brand stuff plenty of times and nobody complained. Plus all that extra effort with the garlic and onions and simmering... for what? So you can save like 3 grams of sugar? Most people are gonna dump a bunch of parmesan on it anyway so the whole healthy angle kind of falls apart. But hey you do you, just don't act like it's some huge life upgrade or anything.

Right there with you, sometimes the simple swap just works out better.
