The day I caught myself measuring flour by scooping directly from the bag

I was making cookies for a potluck last Saturday and my neighbor came over to borrow an egg. She saw me dunk my measuring cup straight into the flour bag and just stared at me like I had three heads. Turns out you're supposed to spoon it in and level it off or you end up with way too much flour. I've been doing it wrong for literally 15 years. Anyone else have a kitchen habit they didn't know was messed up until someone called them out?

Think about how much that difference actually changes the cookies though. Scooping packs the flour down tight so you can end up with 25% more than the recipe actually calls for. No wonder some batches come out like hockey pucks and others are perfect.

Tbh @noaht15 just confirmed I've been sabotaging my own cookies for a decade and a half. I always wondered why my "perfect" recipe would randomly turn into concrete discs. Guess I'll be the neighbor with the weird flour scooping ritual from now on.
