Went to the farmers market in Austin and saw a guy swap his zucchini for a jar of honey
I was at the Mueller farmers market last Saturday and this guy walks up to a honey stand with a basket of zucchini. He just asked straight up if he could trade. The beekeeper lady said sure and handed over a full pint jar. No money. No awkwardness. Has anyone else had luck swapping stuff at markets like that?

I showed up to the farmers market once with a bunch of basil from my garden thinking I'd trade it for some eggs. Walked right up to a chicken farmer and asked if she'd take it. She just stared at my little sad bundle and said "honey, that's maybe enough for one omelet." I ended up buying the eggs anyway. At least your guy had the guts to actually pull it off.

Honestly I used to be more like that chicken farmer, just kinda writing off smaller trades. But a guy at my local swap once traded me a single jar of his homemade hot sauce for a dozen of my eggs, and I was like really? That's it? Turned out that sauce was the best thing I'd had in months. Made me realize it's not about the amount, it's about the effort or the uniqueness or whatever. I feel like this basil guy is probably onto something most of us just miss.
