Just realized I've been playing Stardew Valley wrong for 2 years

I always rushed to unlock everything fast. Got the greenhouse by fall year 1, married by winter, thought I was doing great. Then my friend came over last month and saw me stressing over crops and said 'why are you playing like it's a job?' She showed me her farm where she just fishes and decorates for hours. Took me 80 hours to figure out the game is actually about chilling out. Anyone else get stuck in efficiency mode in cozy games?

Oh man, this hits way too close to home. I spent my first two years in Stardew Valley acting like I was running a corporate farm with quarterly profit goals. It took me watching my girlfriend just pet her chickens for an entire in-game week to realize I was missing the whole point. The efficiency mindset is totally valid if it makes you happy, but too many of us treat cozy games like speedruns. That min-maxing stress defeats the whole purpose of having a virtual escape.

The efficiency mindset is a trap in most games, not just cozy ones. I play Stardew Valley like a min-max spreadsheet (tracking crop yields per season, optimizing tool upgrades) and that's fun for me. Your friend's way sounds relaxing too, but different strokes for different folks, you know? The game gives you that freedom, which is the real cozy part.
