My cousin's greenhouse advice backfired hard on my seedlings

Tbh my cousin swore that bottom watering was the only way to go for all my sprouts, so I switched from top watering and killed half my tomato starts in 2 weeks. The soil stayed too wet and they rotted before I caught it. Has anyone else had luck mixing both methods instead of going all in on one?
