TIL my greenhouse heater doubles my electric bill in winter, oops
So I've been running a little space heater in my greenhouse to keep my seedlings alive, and last month I finally looked at the bill. It went from like $80 to $160, and I honestly had no clue it was that hungry. I found out by tracking the meter before and after turning it on for an hour, that thing pulls 1,500 watts easy. Has anyone else figured out a cheaper way to keep their plants warm without breaking the bank, like maybe a heat mat or some kind of insulation trick?

That "no clue it was that hungry" part hit me hard because I did the exact same thing with a heater in my shed last winter. Mine went from $70 to almost $150 and I only caught it after two months of wondering why my bill was so weird, which felt pretty dumb. Now I just use a heat mat for the seedlings and wrap the whole thing in bubble wrap and old blankets, and my bill barely moved at all.
