Found out my $12 lamp shade from the Goodwill is why my whole reading corner felt off
I spent 3 weeks slowly building a cozy corner in my apartment with a chair, a thrifted blanket, and a salt lamp, and it still felt cold and kind of like a waiting room. Then my friend who does set design for local theater sat in it and asked why my only light came from a tiny 40 watt bulb on the ceiling. She said lamps should sit at eye level when you're seated, and the second I moved a $12 Goodwill lamp onto a stack of old books next to the chair, the whole spot changed in about 10 minutes. Has anyone else found that one small light fix did more than all the pillows and blankets combined?
A good chair and blanket still matter way more than where the light sits. You can have the best lamp spot in the world but if the chair is uncomfortable you won't stay there, and the light fix might just be tricking you into liking stuff that was already fine. Maybe your corner felt cold because 40 watts from the ceiling was just bad lighting, not because the lamp needed to be at eye level.
