Hit my 50th thrift store lamp makeover and it finally clicked
I've been rewiring old lamps for fun for about 3 years now, but last week I hit 50 total and something changed. Usually I just swap the cord and shade and call it done, but this one was a $6 1970s ceramic base with a cracked socket. I spent an extra hour polishing the brass and adding a warm dimmer switch, and sitting in that corner at night felt totally different. Has anyone else had a project where the number of tries suddenly made you care about the details more?

Fifty lamps is a solid run, sure, but I gotta say... I've rewired maybe half that many and the only thing that changed for me was my knuckles got more calluses. That warm dimmer just sounds like a fancy way to trip a breaker when the wife plugs in the vacuum. You're probably just extra tired from staring at brass polish fumes, I mean, give it a week. The $6 lamp you got excited about will end up in the donate pile with the other 49 when the novelty wears off. Maybe that corner just felt different cause you finally sat down instead of bending over a workbench all night.
