I finally tried the thrift store frame trick for my gallery wall

My aunt kept telling me to buy mismatched frames from Goodwill and spray paint them all the same color. I thought she was crazy, but I found 7 frames for $14 total last Saturday. After an afternoon of sanding and two coats of matte black, they actually look like a set. I hung them with command strips in my living room and it finally feels pulled together. Has anyone else done this with frames of totally different sizes or is there a trick to spacing them so it looks intentional?
