My grandma's lampshade comment rewired my whole color scheme

Last week my Nana visited my new apartment and stared at my all-gray living room for a solid minute before saying, 'Honey, this looks like a waiting room for a dentist who gave up.' Then she handed me a $7 thrift store lampshade with orange and mustard stripes and told me to just put it on my floor lamp. I laughed, but once I switched it on that warm glow made the whole room feel like a hug instead of a file cabinet. I ended up adding a rust throw pillow and a cream blanket from Target for about $25 total, and now I'm wondering if anyone else has had a relative casually destroy your decor confidence only to fix it with one weird object?
