Counted my books last weekend and hit 412, and now I'm genuinely worried about my shelf situation
I finally got bored last Saturday and counted every book on my shelves because I wanted to know if I had room for more. 412. That's not a humble brag, that's a problem, because my apartment in Richmond is maybe 600 square feet and the shelves have officially taken over the living room wall. Here's my hot take that might annoy people here: past a certain point, a giant book pile stops being cozy and starts being clutter, and I think that point is somewhere around 300. I see people posting these floor to ceiling shelves stacked three deep and calling it a reading nook, but you can't even pull a book out without an avalanche. Mine looked great in photos but sitting there felt cramped, not warm. So I pulled 60 books to donate, kept the ones I actually reread, and left some empty space on purpose. The room feels twice as big and I actually want to sit in it now. Am I wrong for thinking fewer books makes a better reading corner, or do you all really like the packed wall look?
