The week a thrifted desk lamp turned my corner into a reading cave

Last Tuesday I found this ugly green brass lamp at a garage sale for $4. It had a torn shade and a rusty base, but I cleaned it up and put a warm bulb in it. Now my little desk corner feels like a hidden nook in an old library, even though it's just next to my laundry basket. Has anyone else fixed up a cheap find and had it totally shift the vibe of their space?

Hang on, you said it had a torn shade, but then you mentioned putting a warm bulb in it. If the shade was torn, did you replace it or just leave it? I picked up an old metal desk lamp once with a busted shade, had to rig up a new one from a cheap white paper lantern from the craft store. That thing turned my whole workbench area into a cozy reading spot too, even if the shade hangs kinda crooked.

My friend found this beat up old wooden floor lamp at a flea market for like five bucks. The shade was completely yellowed and stained, but she spray painted the whole thing matte black and got a new shade off Amazon for cheap. Now that lamp sits in her tiny apartment corner and she says it's the coziest spot in the whole place, even with her cat's scratching post right next to it. Stuff like that really shows how a small change can make a big difference in a room.
