Unpopular opinion: my reading corner got worse after I added a rug
Everyone in this group raves about layering rugs for warmth, but I tried a thick wool one from the Goodwill in Bellingham last month and it just collects my cat's fur like a magnet. I vacuum it twice a day and still sneeze every time I sit down for a chapter. The bare hardwood actually felt cozier because it kept my coffee table and floor lamp from looking crowded. Has anyone else found that less soft stuff makes their nook more inviting, or am I just cursed with a shedding monster?

My cat is the same way, total fur factory, and I finally gave up on a beautiful shag rug because it looked like a second pet after three days. The sneezing alone was enough to kill the vibe, so I switched back to bare floor with a small woven mat under just the chair legs. You are not cursed, rugs just trap everything and turn a cozy corner into a dust museum.
