Appreciation post: picking a used Liebherr over a new Terex on a muddy job in Portland

Went with the older Liebherr because it had that extra track width for soft ground, and it saved me from getting stuck twice last week when the rain hit... anyone else find used gear sometimes just works better on certain sites?

That whole "saved me from getting stuck twice" thing, I'd say maybe the ground just happened to be firm enough those two times. You might have gotten lucky just as much as the tracks helped, your mileage may vary.

I tried them out last winter when I drove through some muddy backroads near my cabin. First time I hit a soft patch, my truck started sinking but the tracks grabbed and pulled me right through. The second time was on a hill with wet leaves all over, and I crawled up without spinning out like I would have on my normal tires. I'm not saying it's magic or anything, but those two situations were pretty sticky and I would have been stuck for sure without them. Maybe I did get lucky, but I'll take the help either way.
