Chatted with an old boom truck guy at a job site outside of Phoenix and he made me rethink how I tie off my tag lines
He said he's been using a simple overhand loop instead of a bowline for 30 years and never had a failure, so I tried it on a 12-ton pick yesterday and it held perfect, plus it's way faster to undo - has anyone else switched their knot game up like that?

Not trying to nitpick but an overhand loop and an overhand on a bight are two different knots, and the overhand on a bight can actually be a real pain to untie after a heavy load. The simple overhand loop as a bend or tie-off point is a whole different animal and I've seen them seize up tight under load. Your mileage may vary but I'd still stick with a bowline or a figure eight for anything critical just to be safe.

OH MAN this brings back a memory! I once watched a buddy try to untie an overhand on a bight after lowering a heavy log off his truck and it took him like 20 minutes and a screwdriver to get it loose. I swear the knot just MELTED together under that load. I stick with figure eights for anything I don't want to fight with later.
