Chose a smaller boom truck over a big crawler for a tight jobsite in Philly last month
Picked a 35-ton boom truck instead of a 100-ton crawler for a steel erection behind a row of rowhomes. Turned out great because I could swing the boom through a 20-foot gap the crawler never would have fit through. Anyone else ever gamble on a smaller rig and have it pay off?

Boom truck sounds like a smart call. My last gamble was a used minivan for hauling gear, ended up stuck under a low bridge in under 20 minutes.

Man, ninas67, that's rough - hope insurance covered the damage at least.

Oh man, I gotta disagree a little bit. I mean, a boom truck is great if you know you're gonna be doing tall stuff all the time, but for a lot of jobs a regular old flatbed with a lift gate works fine. Idk, I've been hauling equipment for years and never needed a boom truck, just gotta measure your load and know your routes. Maybe it's just me but getting stuck under a bridge sounds more like a planning problem than a vehicle problem.
