Counterweight shift cleared up my crane's drift

Seeing it lean right told me to move the weight left.

Counterweight balance is key, as ray_campbell46 learned the hard way.

That phrase about brute force being a bad substitute for basic mechanics is everywhere once you look for it. You see people pressing elevator buttons harder when they don't light up, or pushing a pull door with all their strength instead of checking the sign. It's like our first instinct is always to add more force, not more thought.

Tried a similar fix with a wheelbarrow full of wet concrete. Saw it tipping left, so I leaned right with all my weight. Ended up launching the whole thing into my neighbor's fence. Your crane solution is clearly more refined. I learned that day that brute force is a terrible substitute for basic mechanics. Still get reminded of it every time I see that patched section of fence.
