Figured out a better way to level the boom solo on my 90 tonner
I was always fighting with getting the boom perfectly level before a pick, especially when working by myself on site. Tried using a torpedo level on the boom itself but it was awkward reaching it from the cab. Last week I stuck a magnetic angle finder on the cab window frame above the joystick, now I can see the angle without looking away from my boom tip. It saved me about 5 minutes per setup on the last job at the Smithfield lot. Anybody else use a trick like this or just wing it with the bubble?

@anthony129 your buddy's bad day doesn't make my trick useless, I just think he aimed wrong.

Yeah cause nothing says precision like sticking a Home Depot angle finder on your cab window. Next you'll be using a laser pointer taped to the boom to line up your picks.

My buddy Mike from the local union hall tried this EXACT thing last summer. He had this old Stanley protractor he bought at a garage sale for like 50 cents, duct taped it to his cab window so he could "level the boom by eye." First job with it, he swung a beam right into a temporary wall on a church renovation, knocked over three stacks of drywall. The foreman made him carry the angle finder around his neck like a punishment for the rest of the week.
