Had a close call with a sudden wind gust on a job in Corpus Christi last month.

I was lifting a steel beam about 80 feet up when a gust hit the load and started it swinging hard toward the structure. I had to lower it fast and swing the boom the other way to stop the drift. What's your go-to move when the wind picks up like that out of nowhere?

Lowering it fast can actually make the swing worse sometimes. A smoother, slower drop gives you more control to fight the drift. That sudden gust panic is real, but fighting it with another fast move just adds to the chaos. Gotta breathe and work against it slow.

Lower it fast and swing the boom the other way" is my exact same panic move. My go-to is basically just trying not to drop the thing while swearing a lot under my breath.

Feel that deep in my soul. My brain just screams "DO SOMETHING FAST" and my hands follow orders before I can think. It's all clenching teeth and white knuckles until the thing settles. You ever just stand there after, heart pounding, like you just survived a tiny action movie?
