Hit 1000 hours on my Liebherr LTM 1050 last week...

I can't believe it took me that long to realize how much easier a load chart app makes my life. I always did it the old way with paper charts and a calculator, figured it was fine. Then I tried a free one for a week and now I feel dumb for wasting all that time. Has anyone else had a tool that quietly saved them hours on site?

My buddy Dave spent two years on a bridge job doing all his lift calculations longhand with a yellow legal pad and a plastic protractor. He would sit in his truck every morning grinding through numbers for 20 minutes while the rest of us were already getting rigged up. One day his phone died and I let him borrow mine with a load chart app I had just downloaded. He looked at me like I handed him a cheat code. Now he won't shut up about it and his morning coffee break is actually a coffee break again instead of math homework.

Yeah but now he's gotta find a new excuse to sit in his truck for 20 minutes.

That story about Dave with the yellow legal pad is hilarious because I bet he was probably proud of his system too, thinking he was being careful and old school. But the real question is how many of those morning math sessions had a hidden mistake that nobody caught until the lift was already half done. When you're doing all that longhand, do you think the risk of a simple arithmetic error is actually higher than people want to admit?
