I finally ditched the hand signals for a radio setup on a tight job in downtown Nashville

Hand signals still have their place though, especially when you're working with a big crew where not everyone has a radio yet. A radio is great for the noise of downtown Nashville, but it doesn't replace the ability to just point and get someone's attention fast. Just don't throw the hand signals away completely, keep them as a backup in your back pocket.

Oh come on, it's not that serious. Hand signals are fine for what they are, but if you're running a big crew in 2024 and not everyone has a cheap two-way radio, that's a management problem, not a hand signal solution.

Last crane op I was on, hand signals saved our bacon when the radio batteries died, and @danielkim knows that feeling too.
