Met an old timer at a job site in Nashville last month who changed my view on lube schedules

We were on a 4 week high rise build and this 60 year old operator named Ray showed me how he greases his crane every 4 hours on the dot, even if it doesn't look like it needs it. He said 'you're not lubing the crane for today, you're lubing it for 20 years from now' and that stuck with me. Has anyone else had an old hand give them advice that completely changed their routine?

That old timer Ray sounds like a real straight shooter. I had a similar deal with a guy named Pete who taught me to repack my trailer bearings every fall, even if they felt fine. He said water and dirt get in there when you least expect it, and that cheap insurance saved me from a blowout on I-75 last Thanksgiving. Stuff like that really sticks with you.

Noticing how the best lessons usually come from someone who didnt have to teach you (but did anyway).

Hogwash, if you grease too much you'll just blow out seals and make a mess!
