Overheard a safety guy say load charts are just suggestions

Was at a site meeting last week and this safety rep actually said load charts are more like guidelines. He's dead wrong. Has anyone else had to deal with someone downplaying the charts like they're optional?

I'm clumsy enough without treating load charts like menu suggestions - last time I tested a crane's "flexibility" I almost redecorated the job site with a steel beam.

Load charts are just suggestions like gravity is just a suggestion. That safety rep sounds like the kind of person who'd call a hard hat a fashion accessory. Next time someone tells you the chart is flexible, ask them if they want to test their theory by standing under a swinging load. Some lessons are better learned from a distance.
