Rant: The load cell add-on I called a gimmick saved my butt in Tampa

I rigged a 40-ton pick last Tuesday at a job site off I-75 and the load cell read 31,200 lbs, which I figured was off by a few thousand because I'd done the math myself. Turned out the beam I tied into had a hidden rust patch and the cell caught the deflection before I even got the load off the ground. I've been running cranes for 12 years and always trusted my gut over those sensors, but now I'm wondering how many close calls I ignored. Anyone else had a backup system prove them wrong on a real lift, or am I the only stubborn one here?
