Talked to an old tower crane guy at the diner off 94 yesterday
He said he never uses the load line chart anymore because he just knows by feel after 30 years, and it made me wonder if I rely too much on the numbers instead of learning the machine.

That "exactly how" part is the problem. We always put extra outrigger pads down and check the ground before the lift even starts. One soft spot under those pads and the whole thing goes sideways fast.

Yeah I remember reading some OSHA case study where a crew skipped checking the ground and the crane sank right through a hidden old septic tank. Numbers are just guesses if you don't verify the dirt under you lol.
