TIL to stop trusting the wind sock at the Rialto site after it lied to me at 90 feet
Last Tuesday I was picking a bundle of rebar at the Rialto job in Fort Wayne and the ground sock was hanging dead still so I called it good and boomed out. Halfway through the swing a gust hit the load and the tag line guy had to let go or get dragged, and I stopped, held the load, and waited out the whole thing. Turned out the sock was blocked from that wind direction by the building and my anemometer on the boom was reading 19 mph. Now I check the boom gauge before every pick no matter what the sock shows, has anyone else had a ground sock read way off because of a wind shadow?
