Update: figured out a way to stop my tagline from swinging on tall picks
I kept fighting the tagline swinging on picks over 80 feet and it was wearing me out. A guy named Ray with 30 years on cranes in Houston told me to add about a 15 foot length of light chain right above the hook. The extra weight settles the line down and the swing pretty much quits. I tried it on a 90 foot pick yesterday and the load came in smooth for the first time in months. Anyone else run chain on their tagline or do you just deal with the swing?
A 15 foot length of light chain" sounds like a lot of extra work for something you could just steady with a hand line. Swinging taglines are normal on tall picks, that's just part of running a crane.
