Wasted $500 on a load indicator I didn't even need

Honestly, I bought this fancy load indicator system off a guy at a trade show last year. Thought it would help me avoid overloading on tight jobs. Turns out my old boom angle and pressure gauges were already doing the job fine. Ngl, I dropped $500 on something that just sits in my toolbox now. Anyone else ever fall for gear that sounded way better than it actually was?

Did you actually run a direct comparison on a tricky job to see if the indicator caught something the old gauges missed? Because sometimes those new systems claim they catch weird angles or side loads that old pressure readings don't warn you about. Just wondering if it was truly redundant or if you never really put it to the test.

You mentioned "weird angles or side loads," and that's exactly what I'm curious about. Did you actually set up a side load test with a torque wrench vs the indicator to see if there was a measurable difference, or was it more of a "we assume it works" kind of thing? Tbh I've seen those systems claim they catch stuff but never saw anyone back it up with numbers.

Did you actually run that test yourself or are you just wondering like me? I feel you on that though, it's one of those things that sounds good on paper but you never really see the proof.
