Totally agree, that waiting period is where everything real happens for me too.

Honestly, it was more about the "waiting" part that flipped a switch for me. There's this whole idea that the time between making a promise and seeing it pay off is where the actual story lives, not just the start or the finish. Most people skip over that middle bit because it's boring, but that's where all the real character growth happens.
