Had a chat with a librarian who told me to stop editing my first draft
She said 'you're polishing a brick instead of laying the foundation' and I realized I've been rewriting chapter one for 3 months instead of just getting the story down, so has anyone else gotten stuck perfecting the first page while the rest of the book is a blank void?

Ask her if she meant you should keep the bad writing or just stop trying to fix it. Cause there's a big difference between accepting a rough first draft and purposely writing junk. I've seen writers quit altogether because they thought "just get it down" meant they had to force out garbage.

Stop trying to fix it" is the dangerous part. That mindset can make you think you're supposed to ignore problems instead of just saving the editing for later.
