I finally finished a short story after 6 months of staring at a blank page
I was sitting in my local coffee shop in Portland last Tuesday, just watching people come and go, when a stranger dropped a tray of cups. The crash and the mess he made trying to pick them up gave me the exact opening scene I needed. I wrote 3 pages in 30 minutes right there. Has anyone else ever gotten a story idea from a random public accident like that?

Public accidents are just distractions that keep you from real writing.

Oh man, you nailed it. Had this happen just last week where I spilled coffee all over my notebook at a cafe and spent the next hour cleaning up and feeling embarrassed instead of finishing my chapter. It's like the universe knows you're in a good flow and throws something random in your path. The whole thing eats up mental energy too, not just time. You get rattled and it takes forever to find your groove again. Public accidents are basically traps, they just pull you so far off course. What do you do when something like that hits mid sentence?

Yeah @dianaanderson, it's like your brain just shorts out completely.
