I used to map out every single plot point before writing a word

Back in 2018 I'd spend weeks planning 40 chapters before typing a single sentence, but now I just drop my character into a weird situation and see where it goes. Has anyone else loosened up their process over time or am I just getting lazy?

lol my friend Sarah used to be one of those people with color coded binders for her stories. timelines, character backstories, the whole deal. then she got a dog and it just went out the window. now she literally starts with "what if this dude woke up as a frog" and the story comes from her trying to get him back to normal while also dealing with a landlord who is also a frog. she said the planning made her stories stiff anyway, like she was forcing characters into boxes. now she just writes and the plot shows up on its own.

Wait @noahmartin did you say the landlord was also a frog, that is insane and I love it.
