Showerthought: I got past a huge writer's block by writing the ending first

I was stuck on a short story for my local writing group for like three weeks, couldn't get past the first scene. Out of pure frustration, I just opened a new doc and wrote the final paragraph where the main character finds the missing dog. It was messy, but having that target made the middle part way easier to figure out. I finished the draft in two days after that. Has anyone else tried starting from the back?

Three weeks on one scene is brutal.

My friend's band spent a month on just the intro.

That trick works for more than writing. My uncle builds model ships and swears by gluing the mast on last, even though the instructions say to do it first.
