Showerthought: My plot outline crashed and burned harder than my last short story

I sat down last Tuesday for 4 hours to plot out a sci-fi piece. Character arcs, timeline, world rules - all on a whiteboard. Then the marker died halfway through and I couldn't find a replacement. That killed my flow completely. Stared at the half-finished mess for an hour, then just started writing blind from memory. It turned into a messy first draft but the characters felt more alive. Has anyone else had a plan fall apart and the story got better?

Heard a podcast say messy drafts often capture better voices.

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I typed an entire paper drunk in college and got an A somehow.

Sometimes the best stuff happens when you stop forcing it.
