Warning: My "write drunk edit sober" prompt backfired hard
I tried that Hemingway-inspired writing prompt where you just dump raw emotion on the page without filters. The result was 2 pages of pure rage about my neighbor's leaf blower at 7 AM. Has anyone else tried this and ended up with something totally useless?

I mean, come on man, is a leaf blower really worth two pages of rage? I get it, early morning noise is annoying, but that's more of a minor inconvenience than a life crisis. You probably just needed coffee, not a literary masterpiece. The whole point of that exercise is to get the junk out so you can write something useful later. So you wrote about leaf blowers. Big deal. Throw it in the trash and move on to the actual writing.

Look, I used to think the whole "morning pages" thing was just pseudoscience for people who couldn't quit journaling. But you're right, I was wrong. Sometimes you gotta let the garbage out before you find anything worth keeping, even if it's just two pages about a leaf blower.

Ha, sounds like you unlocked the secret level where Hemingway just rants about yard maintenance. My version was basically a 3 page screed about how my neighbor’s dog barks at THE WIND. So either we’re both writing the next great American complaint, or this prompt is just a fast track to becoming a real grumpy old person.
