Warning: That $20 writing prompt generator I found online crashed my entire draft folder
It corrupted 47 files last Tuesday when I tried to import them, so now I'm manually rewriting every prompt from memory and backing up to a physical notebook instead has anyone else had a tool just nuke their work like that?

...and my buddy down at the lumber yard had the exact same thing happen with a "free" inventory tracker app last month. Wiped out his entire customer order history, and he had to spend a weekend in his shed with a stack of paper invoices trying to piece it all back together. That kind of data loss just hits you in the gut, especially when you're in the middle of something important. I've learned the hard way to keep everything on a thumb drive and a paper copy before even thinking about trying some new tool.

Yeah that "hit you in the gut" part is spot on, @harper_foster. One thing though - thumb drives aren't as safe as people think, they can fail just as easy as any other drive if you drop them or get a bad batch. A second cloud backup or an external hard drive kept in a different room gives you way more protection than just one little stick.
