A guy at a garage sale told me I was sorting my bottle caps wrong

I collect bottle caps from everywhere. Mostly craft beers and sodas. This older dude in Ohio saw my boxes at a sale and said I was losing the story by sorting by color. He told me to sort by brewery or region instead. Now I spend an hour just organizing a batch. Got 140 new caps last month from a swap meet. Anyone else organize their collection by a weird system?

Sorting by color gave me a completely new appreciation for my collection. I did the same thing with my rock collection back when I was younger, and it made finding specific pieces so much easier. The time spent doing something you enjoy is never wasted, even if it seems a little odd to other people. Your stamps probably look amazing organized by color, and you can spot any rare ones right away. If it made you happy for 30 years, that sounds like a pretty good way to spend your time.
