I started collecting old keys and found one that still worked on a random door
So I've been picking up old skeleton keys from flea markets for a few months now, just because I think they look cool. I keep them in a little wooden box, maybe have about 15. Last weekend I was at a yard sale in my hometown and got a really rusty one for fifty cents. For some reason I decided to try it on the old back door of my apartment building, which is this heavy wooden thing that looks ancient. I mean, I was just messing around, I didn't think it would actually do anything. But the key slid right in and turned with a loud click, and the door opened. It totally freaked me out. I guess the lock is just so old that a lot of these simple keys might fit. It made me think about how these things I collect as trinkets actually had a real job once. Has anyone else had a key from their collection actually work on something?

Notice how many old things still work if we just try them.

Weird, right? That's kind of spooky but cool... makes you wonder where all those old keys came from.
