Just realized my grandpa's advice about 'never throw away old manuals' saved me $300 on a repair
My uncle told me to toss all the paperwork for my 10 year old furnace back in 2014, but I kept it anyway, and last week the manual had a wiring diagram that let me fix the blower motor myself in 20 minutes instead of calling a tech, has anyone else gotten lucky holding onto old collection stuff?

That's not really a "collection" thing though, just regular old manuals.

Right?! Like I got this vintage car engine manual from the 80s and it's literally just instructions on how to change the oil, but the fold-out diagrams and the weird smell of old paper make it feel special to me. I mean, I get that it's not a rare comic book or anything, but there's something about holding the actual thing that the original owner held, you know? I actually have a whole shelf of these things now (mostly for old appliances and electronics) and my wife thinks I'm nuts. But hey, they're manuals with a story, even if the story is just "someone needed to fix their toaster oven once.

Wait, do you actually read through them or is it more about the physical objects themselves? I've got a stack of old VCR manuals somewhere but I've never really opened them after the first look. The paper smell thing I get though, that's a real thing with old books and paperwork.

Am I the only one who reads old manuals in the bathtub for fun, or is that just my weird brand of relaxation?
