My uncle told me to never store my old comic books in the basement
He said the damp air would ruin them, but I thought my boxes were safe in a corner. Last month I pulled out my 1980s X-Men run and found the pages all wavy and stuck together. Anyone else have a story about a collection tip that saved you or cost you big?

Did he give you any other advice you ignored? My uncle was the same way and I learned the hard way too. It's always the simple tips that seem obvious later.

Yeah, my friend Mark had a whole thing like that, @alicehernandez. His dad always told him to put those silica gel packets in his camera gear case, but Mark thought it was overkill for his old film cameras. He left them in his garage for a summer, and the lens fungus he got was just heartbreaking. It completely ruined a really nice vintage lens. The repair guy said the moisture just cooked them in there. Now he buys those packets in bulk, way too late.

My own dad's advice about checking tire pressure went the same way (flat on the highway).
