My vintage camera collection changed after a stranger at a flea market called me out

Some older guy at an antique fair told me I was storing my cameras with the lenses facing down, which ruins the shutters over time. I had about 15 of them sitting that way for years and never thought about it. Has anyone else gotten a tip from a random collector that made you rethink your whole setup?

Used to store mine the same way, old habits from just slapping them on a shelf without thinking. Then I talked to a repair guy who said gravity slowly pulls the shutter blades out of alignment when they sit vertically like that for years. Changed my whole setup after that, now they're all on their backs or sideways with supports. Kind of annoying to rearrange everything but beats getting quoted $200 for a CLA on a camera worth maybe $80.

Not sure I buy that, I've stored mine lenses down for decades with zero problems.

Actually "lenses" takes an apostrophe before the S, not after it.
