That lady at the flea market who said my vintage key collection was 'just junk' and then spent 20 minutes telling me about her spoon collection
She was so passionate about the tiny details in each spoon's handle pattern that she pointed out four different etching styles and where they came from, and it made me wonder how many conversations I've missed by assuming nobody else gets why I collect things has anyone else had a stranger totally change how you see your own hobby?

@the_william that's a good point but I think you're mixing up patina with just regular rust. Patina is that stable layer that protects the metal underneath, whereas rust literally eats away at the metal over time. Her spoon talk actually reminded me that my keys have their own kind of history though, like how a skeleton key from the 1800s will have that smooth worn-down look from thousands of hands using it.

Did she actually help you see something new about your key collection by the time she was done? I had a guy at a car show explain why rust on old engine parts was actually beautiful because it showed the patina of age and honest use. Made me look at my own beat up tools completely different after that. What part of her spoon talk got you rethinking your keys?
