That old dude at the flea market saved my comic collection

This guy named Frank who's been selling vintage stuff for 40 years told me to stop storing my silver age comics in my garage because heat cycles wreck the paper. I didn't listen for like 3 years until I found mold on a 1974 Spider-Man issue. Lost about $200 worth of value on that one book, now I keep everything in a climate controlled closet.

Garage storage is fine if you're not an idiot about it. People act like comics are made of butterfly wings. I've got longboxes from the 80s that sat in a non-climate controlled basement for decades and they're fine. The key is keeping them off the floor and away from direct water sources. Mold happens when you let moisture sit, not because the air gets a little warm in summer. Frank sounds like he's trying to sell you on some overpriced storage solution or maybe he just likes hearing himself talk.

Wait wait wait. Non-climate controlled basement for DECADES? That's insane to me. I had a box of New Mutants left in my folks' garage for like two summers and the covers curled up like dead leaves. I'm genuinely shocked yours survived. Either you got stupid lucky with that basement or the humidity gods just smiled on you. I don't trust any space that isn't climate controlled after what I saw happen to a friend's Amazing Spider-Man run.
