The old cookie tin I kept sewing supplies in turned out to be worth $200
I've been using this beat up tin to hold buttons and needles for like 6 years, never gave it a second look until a friend stopped by and pointed out it was a 1960s Girl Scout commemorative. She looked it up on her phone and there's one on eBay for $200, which is way more than I paid for the sewing stuff inside. Has anyone else found out a random item they already owned was actually collectible?

Isn't it funny how we're surrounded by little hidden treasures we totally overlook? @barbarah19 I've been noticing this more and more like how my mom's old Pyrex bowls she got for free at yard sales are suddenly worth a small fortune to collectors.

Oh man, that's such a great find! Something similar happened to me with an old lunchbox I had from the 70s. It was one of those metal ones with the cartoon characters, and I just used it to hold random tools. My nephew saw it and goes crazy, telling me it's a collector's item. Looked it up and there were a few sold for around $150. It was beat up with some rust spots and all. Never in a million years would I have guessed a rusty old lunchbox was worth anything. It's crazy what people will pay for old stuff we just see as junk.

That rusty lunchbox story hits close to home. I just threw out a whole box of old video game magazines my dad kept from the 80s because I figured they were worthless. Found out later some of those go for $50 a pop. Guess that's just me being a professional at missing the obvious treasure right under my nose.
