Wasted $80 on fancy plant grow lights from Amazon
They were way too weak for my succulents and everything stretched out leggy in 3 weeks. Regular 15 dollar shop lights from the hardware store actually work better, anyone else fall for the marketing on those purple lights?

Man, that's a bummer. I've seen those purple lights pushed so hard on social media, but everyone I know who tried them had the same problem. The hardware store shop lights are honestly the way to go, they just put out way more usable light for the money.

Had a buddy sink like 300 bucks into one of those purple fixtures last spring. He was so proud of it, swore it was gonna change everything. By July he had so many lanky, stretchy tomatoes he was giving them away to neighbors just to get rid of them. Swapped to a couple of those cheap 4-foot LED shop lights from the hardware store and his winter starts looked totally different, nice and stocky. Hard to argue with what actually works, you know?

I saw this one YouTube gardener break down the specs on those purple lights and the PAR values were actually lower than a standard white shop light in the same price range. People get sucked in by the marketing and the sci-fi look, but the numbers don't lie. It's wild how often the simple stuff just works better for way less money.
