Am I the only one who hates forced password changes?

It just makes me recycle old passwords with tiny tweaks.

My friend just adds "1" to his old password every month... totally pointless.

Has he ever said he's doing it to outsmart those "change your password every 90 days" rules? Because that mindset is the bigger issue. He might feel clever, but he's just creating a pattern that's easy to guess if someone sees one of his old passwords. The point of changing a password is to make it new and hard to guess, not to do a tiny change you can remember. Isn't he just making it easier for himself while thinking he's following the rules?

Look, adding a number is still changing it, so it technically follows the rule. Most people aren't targets for hackers anyway, so who cares if it's a simple pattern. Gotta cut people some slack when the rules themselves are dumb, @stellaw91.
