Had a brutal week where my work laptop got hit with ransomware on a Tuesday
Ngl, it started when I clicked a link in an email that looked legit from our dispatch system. By noon, all my files were locked and a screen popped up demanding $400 in Bitcoin. I had to pull over at a truck stop in Flagstaff and call our IT guy, who spent 4 hours restoring from backups. Has anyone else dealt with a close call like that from a phishing email that looked too real?

Man, that's rough. Real sorry you had to deal with that mess. It's scary how good those fake emails are getting these days.

@anthony424 Did IT find what tipped you off after the fact?

Double down on checking the actual email headers and the reply-to address. Most people see a logo and think it's legit but the sneaky stuff is always in the routing details. I tell everyone at work to HOVER over any link before clicking even if it looks official because one wrong click can lock up your whole system.
